Hi guise We have a new mission for you.

There is a brand new game, Galava, where the internet is srs bsns and RPfags roam in packs. We've already setup a substantial base (75 members) and could use more.
The game resets in a couple weeks, that is when we take over.

Reality Show ideas for Imperial Valley.
Share

I met Mrs. Webb (she was at the ACC forum and IDD debate) again last night at the reggae show in Calexico. She, and her husband, are Katrina transplants from Louisiana. She is currently doing charity work with the First Presbyterian Church in Brawley and organizing various fund raisers and events.

She mentioned the desire to start a reality show in Imperial County.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reality_television

Couple formats we can choose from: Documentary-style (Special living environment, Professional activities), Elimination/Game shows, Job search, Self-improvement/makeover,Renovation, Dating shows, Talk shows, Hidden cameras, Hoaxes.

Couple shows stood out to me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Border_Security:_Australia%27s_Front_Line and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U8TV:_The_Lofters

We tossed around a few ideas, and looking online, here is what I am thinking of.

  1. 'Who Wants to be an American?'

(Not sure there is a copyright on this name as I only found:)

Interesting little clip (Russian reality elimination show for American citizenship, the ending....) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__qWoUeU6tI

Families with members on both sides, process of immigration, where they come from, where they go.

You can make the series focus on various familial groups and what each group is dealing with.

I want to say, put out a bulletin that reads:

Wanted, participants for a 'Reality Television' series to begin on Youtube. Looking for: Families with ties to both sides of the border, especially in the Imperial and Mexicali Valley areas. The more chaotic and diverse your family, the more interesting. English and Spanish accepted. Looking for a combination of any of these pre-conditions: Naturalized American citizens, Mexican citizens living on either side of the border and some who are in the process of immigrating (maybe even illegal, we will protect identities). Teenage mother. High school drop-out. Family living below the poverty line. Suffering racial discrimination or prejudice. Family member in law enforcement or customs. Family member in education field. Migrant worker and/or field-produce harvester. Elderly family member(s) familiar with the history of the valley.

Now, the big 'problem' is finding people who 'talk.' Reality tv works when you have active people, who do not sit in front of tv all day, and who have 'mic skills.' This means that when the attention is on them, they can perform.

So eloquent speaker is good, rambling drunk who sounds crazy is good too. As long as you can hear them clearly.

Based on who comes in, and what they tell us, you create a chart detailing where each family member lives, does, and who they interact with regularly. On the same sheet of paper, sketch out a calender of activities that the individuals do regularly, and that are out of the ordinary.

After last entry received, look at the charts.

Based on the interview process, you will likely begin to notice where the 'good' and 'juicy' stories would be located. We do not want people with any history of violence (especially while intoxicated), and with hopefully little to no criminal background, but a good subplot story would be to follow an ex-convict as s/he tries to get a job.

The other big 'problem' is editing together a coherent story, and teaching people how to do the 'testimonial,' where they go into a room alone and talk about events from their perspective. I think I would need to give a class and teach everyone about how to behave on camera. Otherwise, my primitive editing skills will be put to the test.

So, with all the entries, you could hopefully find some overlap, and it is with those overlaps (these families have kids in the same school, they shop at the same market, they live in the same town/street/neighborhood, etc) that you can begin to realize what to focus the camera on.

Now, my own personal bias in how to make this show: Illustrate the life in Mexico, illustrate the life in the IV. Show how each side deals with this or that issue (compare/contrast). Show how the family is caught in the middle. Also bring to light serious issues facing both communities (thus forcing the larger governments to realize that part of their nation is under a microscope and shown to be failing).

The show can start on Youtube, and if it gains popularity (need to advertise it, so some money up front for that) can expand. Create own website, run on local tv networks, maybe even gain international popularity and notoriety and be sent elsewhere, if we do a good enough job.

Really, we just need to get started. Put together a few episodes, see how those run. Maybe re-edit based on audience feedback.

2. (Special Living Arrangement)

This we can likely do easily, since it is getting strangers together, putting them in a living situation we create, and then give them some sort of task. Plenty of un-employed, plenty of empty lots and houses, variety of tasks.

Heck, pick ten people and give them a large lot. Now tell them they have to work together, make money, create a place to live, start a business. Total vacuum of structure, lots of space for personalities to fill in and lead to conflict.

Film the people as they form a group, decide on a course of action, the obstacles they will encounter in trying to start something in the Imperial Valley.

3. (Professional Activities)

'professionals either going about day-to-day business or performing an entire project over the course of a series'

So, we can pick Border and Customs (like that show for Austrailia), farming industry, and what else? Schools?

4. (Elimination/Game Show)

'Another type of reality TV is 'reality-competition', or so-called 'reality game shows', in which participants are filmed competing to win a prize, often while living together in a confined environment. In many cases, participants are removed until only one person or team remains, who/which is then declared the winner. Usually this is done by eliminating participants one at a time, in balloon debate style, through either disapproval voting or by voting for the most popular choice to win. Voting is done by either the viewing audience, the show's own participants, a panel of judges, or some combination of the three. (These programs have also been called 'game operas,''

5. (Dating)

6. (Job Search)

This one would be a trip. Film people as they go around trying to find a job. Hang out at Day Labor, follow these people home and see what that life is like.

7. (Self-Improvement/Make-over)

Another will potential here. Take high school drop-outs, introduce them to motivational speakers (costs money?), have them engage in various activities and self-improvements, watch them as they go on interviews and job searches.

8. (Renovation)

Approach a local business and film them renovating and changing their business. Bring in professionals to give guidance. Maybe at first just find a business under-going renovation (they have their own money), and if the show works, hopefully have money to give to second season.

9. (Talk Show)

10. (Hidden Camera)

11. (Hoax)

'Political impact
Reality television's global success has been, in the eyes of some analysts, an important political phenomenon. In some authoritarian countries, reality television voting represents the first time many citizens have voted in any free and fair wide-scale elections. In addition, the frankness of the settings on some reality shows present situations that were formerly taboo in certain orthodox cultures, like the pan-Arab version of Big Brother, which shows men and women living together.[20] Journalist Matt Labash, noting both of these issues, wrote that 'the best hope of little Americas developing in the Middle East could be Arab-produced reality TV.'[21] Similarly, in China, after the finale of the 2005 season of Super Girl (the local version of Pop Idol) drew an audience of around 400 million people, and 8 million text message votes, the state-run English-language newspaper Beijing Today ran the front-page headline 'Is Super Girl a Force for Democracy?'[22] The Chinese government criticized the show, citing both its democratic nature and its excessive vulgarity, or 'worldliness',[23] and in 2006 banned it outright.['

OP are you referring to the real 7chan which is down or the temporary 7chan named cpchan? The temporary 7chan is really horrible. The mods are ban happy. Not anything like the real 7chan where controlled madness is allowed. That place is even worse than 4 and 420 chans. Humorless pretension is the king in that place.
